About Coach House

Andy and Ally Chumley are the driving forces behind Coach House. When they aren’t developing home school programs and resources, they are tutoring primary, secondary and tertiary students in coastal NSW. The Chumleys are also home school parents who are successfully educating their two children, so you can be sure they know the ropes.

Andy Chumley is a London lad, a learning support teacher specialising in Maths and Phonics. He road-tests products that teach in literacy and numeracy, enabling us to fine-tune program materials to each individual learner. Andy is also a cabinet maker and shop fitter. Andy is a big fan of mastery learning and explicit instruction.

Ally Chumley is a Master’s degree qualified secondary teacher specialising in English, History, Geography and Science. She is the author of 45 books used in schools across Australia and has been a curriculum consultant for many years. Ally is a whizz at helping families navigate the waters of home schooling and is our program designer and projects author.

The Coach House Difference

At Coach House, we road-test all our materials on the mainstream school students who come to us each week for tutoring. School students provide us with a wealth of data about what’s going on in regular school classrooms every day.

We’ve discovered that the keys to motivating students are using high interest topics, offering thoroughly engrossing depth studies and perfectly matching the learning materials to the ability levels of students. These are the reasons why a personally customised program is vital. We've found in our line of work that when motivation dies, learning stops happening.
